Kathryn Barr

Kathryn was raised singing shape-notes, an American sacred tradition with roots in New England and the South. By age fifteen she was instructing other students in harmony, ear-training, and song-leading. She has taught shape-note singing school classes (ages preschool through adult) at camps and co-ops throughout California and Texas. Kathryn studied vocal music at CSU Long Beach and San Francisco State University.

Kathryn’s piano training began at the age of seven. By high school, she was an in-demand accompanist and classical pianist. She has performed with Mid-City Strings, Flower Mound Community Orchestras, and a variety of high school and college ensembles.

Kathryn is, first and foremost, a teacher, and has taught privately for over fifteen years. Nurturing, patient, and thoughtful, Kathryn’s focus is on the student as an individual. Kathryn teaches piano and voice fundamentals including music theory, ear training, sight reading, and solfege.

Kathryn is available to teach at our studio.
